A Message from Mrs Haycock & Mrs Davies
Welcome to Year 1 at St Matthew’s! We are excited to guide your children through a year full of learning, discovery, and fun. In our classroom, children build confidence and knowledge through Whiterose with Maths Mastery, develop their reading and writing skills with Pathways to Write, and RWI, and enjoy hands-on learning through practical activities. Our learning doesn’t stop indoors—Forest School sessions give children the chance to explore, problem-solve, and connect with nature. We are committed to making Year 1 a safe, inspiring, and enjoyable place where every child can flourish.

Our PE days are [insert days]. Please ensure your child has the correct PE kit on these days. Try to read with your child every day to help develop their confidence and enjoyment of reading. Homework will be given out on Wednesday and should be returned on Monday. There will be 1 English and 1 Maths per week, as well as weekly spellings and daily reading.
