School Uniform

At St Matthew’s CofE Primary School, we believe that school uniform plays an important role in helping children feel part of our school community. Wearing the correct clothing promotes pride in appearance, supports equality, and helps children focus on learning.

Girls

Grey skirt or pinafore, or grey/black trousers
Navy blue jumper, sweatshirt, fleece or cardigan
White blouse, shirt or polo-necked shirt
White, grey or black socks or tights

Summer option

White and blue checked cotton dress (optional)

Boys

Grey or black trousers
Navy blue jumper, sweatshirt or fleece
White shirt or polo shirt
Grey socks

Footwear

Black shoes or all-black trainers (including laces, no obvious logos)

Most uniform items can be bought from high-street shops or supermarkets. You may also choose to purchase branded jumpers or cardigans from our recommended suppliers but this is not compulsory — plain items in the correct colours are acceptable.

Cost and Accessibility

We want to keep uniform costs as affordable as possible, and we follow national guidance designed to make school uniforms inclusive and reasonable in price. This includes:

Keeping the number of branded items limited (so parents are not required to buy more than necessary)
Allowing generic or unbranded items in the correct colours
If you experience difficulty meeting uniform costs, please contact the school office — we can offer support and information about second-hand uniform options.

PE Kit

Children must have a PE kit for all physical education lessons. Please ensure that your child brings their PE kit on their scheduled PE days. (Details of the kit may be available separately.) PE is a compulsory part of the curriculum, and the correct kit helps ensure safety and participation.

Labelling and Practical Tips

We strongly recommend that all items are clearly labelled with your child’s name to help us return lost property. Many high-street shops offer affordable name labels or pencil/iron-on options.

Pre-loved Uniform

We offer a range of good-quality pre-used uniform items which can be purchased directly from school for a small donation. This helps keep costs down for families while also supporting sustainability. Please contact the school office for availability or further information.
