Treetops

At St Matthew’s, we are committed to ensuring that every child receives a curriculum that meets their individual needs. In September 2025, we opened Treetops to provide a safe, happy and nurturing learning environment for some of our pupils who benefit from a more specialised approach.

Learning in Treetops focuses on both academic progress and essential life skills, supporting children to grow in confidence, independence and communication.

This dedicated provision allows us to:

Provide specialised resources and targeted interventions
Closely monitor progress and adapt learning approaches
Support social, emotional and academic development
Create a calm, structured and inclusive environment

The classroom is carefully designed to support pupils whose needs significantly impact their communication, interaction and learning.

Curriculum in Treetops

Children in Treetops have a wide range of needs and learn in different ways. Because of this, teaching approaches are flexible and adapted over time to reflect each child’s development.

This ensures that every child receives a bespoke learning experience tailored to their needs.

This progressive approach prepares children to access the National Curriculum where appropriate, in line with the SEND Code of Practice, which states:

“All children and young people are entitled to an education that enables them to make progress so that they achieve their best and become confident individuals living fulfilling lives.”
