At St Matthew’s, our School Council plays an important role in helping us live out our vision of learning, growing and flourishing together as a loving school family.
Each class elects representatives who meet regularly to share ideas, discuss improvements and represent the views of their classmates. Through the School Council, pupils develop confidence, leadership and responsibility while learning how to work collaboratively to make positive changes within our school community.
Our School Council actively promotes British Values, particularly:
Democracy – Representatives are elected by their peers and gather the views of their classes before meetings.
Individual Liberty – Pupils are encouraged to express their opinions respectfully and confidently.
Mutual Respect and Tolerance – Children learn to listen to different viewpoints and value diversity within our school family.
The Rule of Law – Pupils understand the importance of agreed rules and fair decision-making.
By taking part in the School Council, children gain a deeper understanding of citizenship and their role in shaping a caring, respectful and inclusive community.
